Morning Coffee, One Puzzle: Building a Five-Minute Daily Habit

Morning Coffee, One Puzzle: Building a Five-Minute Daily Habit

Big habits are hard to start. Small ones are easy to keep. Pairing one puzzle with your morning coffee is about as small, and as pleasant, as a habit gets.

Anchor it to something you already do

You already make coffee every morning. Keep your puzzle book and a pencil right next to the kettle or coffee machine. When the coffee is ready, so is the puzzle. No willpower needed.

Keep it to five minutes

The goal is not to finish a page. It is to sit down, focus on something calm and give your brain a gentle warm-up before the day starts. If you finish early, great. If not, the puzzle will wait until tomorrow.

Start the day with focus, not noise

Many of us reach for our phones first thing and are instantly flooded with messages and news. Five minutes with a puzzle first lets you start the day on your own terms.

Track your streak

Put a small tick at the top of each page you work on. After a couple of weeks you will have a visible streak, and streaks are surprisingly motivating to keep alive.

Mix up the puzzle types

Alternate between word searches, hidden object scenes and sudoku to keep things fresh. Variety keeps the habit fun rather than routine.
